Telescum was original started by my two friends (David & Alkaif) and myself (Robert). We were in class together at AUT in Auckland when we saw the domain name Telescum come available.
So David bought the address through Orcon, which I paid for and had transferred to me when I created an account. We setup a small website on David's home server for the time being until Alkaif let us use his server in California for free.
Since that time I programmed and designed the website, and David and Alkaif sorted out the domain name and hosting side of things, as well as being valuable admins for the forums.
Basically the pricing, plans, and quality of service, as well as all the bad practices Telecom followed forced us to start this site.
We started Telescum because we were all relatively disgruntled with the Telecommunications situation in NZ. The Commerce Commission had failed to regulate Telecom in 2003 because they claimed they would improve by upping the amount of users and wholesale users of broadband to a number they set. So we thought we would provide a place for the people to voice their concerns. Also, my inability to get broadband because Telecom won't upgrade the cabinet outside my house.
We also have some new content creators now. Managed to find a few people who are as passionate about Telecom as we are. They are:
uber-nerd - avid teenage activist
SsSs - forums admin from the last Telescum

My email worked until Sat 18/08/07, until Bubble came along but alas it is still not going 23/08/07 . To get through for help is near impossible after hours of trying listenening to the song Loyal (I,ll give them b Loyal) yesterday we thought we were back up but no ,so phoned again and this morning after only 15mins wait got a nice guy who tried to help but after 40mins he still couldnt get us back running. He admitted he had been called in and didnt normally work for telecom. What an absolute disaster both technically and public relations wise.
